If you are aged 24 or over or held an A2 licence for two years you can get an unrestricted motorcycle licence by taking a Direct Access (DAS) course and passing the practical tests. A full bike licence entitling you to ride any size of machine is gained through this course. After completing your CBT your training continues and once you are proficient enough, you progress onto a 689 cc motorcycle (Yamaha MT-07) which you will take your tests on.
You will need to have a valid theory test certificate and if you don’t already hold a valid CBT certificate you will need to complete a CBT first. The theory can be arranged by calling the DVSA on 0300 200 1122 or by visiting this link. To see how the Motorcycle Theory Test works please click here. Your upgrade to a 600cc+ motorcycle will depend on your experience.
At Universal Motorcycle Training we offer a quick assessment of your riding skills. The amount of training needed to progress you to test standard is advised by your trainer. We will then discuss your training requirements as a rider and offer the best package to meet the required skill level to take your test.
You can take C.B.T. followed by both modules within consecutive days, or split your days to suit, i.e. take C.B.T. and Module 1 initially to be followed later by Module 2 (this is the safest way to do it, as you will avoid risking your Module 2 and test escort fees, in case you don’t pass your Module 1 first time).
We are totally flexible and can arrange your course to suit you. As the course fee is charged at a daily rate you can choose your options. Our experienced office staff will help you with booking your course. With many years of experience we are specialists in tailoring training requirements to your needs. The easiest way to book is online via the following link: Book your Full Motorcycle Licence Package Here . Alternatively, if you wish to book over the phone, please call us on 0203 691 8807. If you are unsure which course is for you take just CBT and see how you get on.
A typical course for experienced riders would be spread over three, four days or five days. i.e.
CBT followed by Mod 1 training and test and finally Mod 2 training and test.
Novices and less experienced people will need to add extra training days to suit.

The practical test is in two parts, Module 1 and Module 2. You have to complete them in order, (so you need to pass Module 1 first)
This consists of a series of manoeuvres that are conducted at the DVSA Multi Purpose Test Centre. Some of these are at slow speeds, (such as a slalom and a U-Turn), and some at higher speeds, (including a 50km, (about 32 mph) avoidance manoeuvre), which require a good standard of machine handling skills.
Fortunately at the Universal Motorcycle Training we have a Module 1 test circuit laid out for you to train on. We also use a speed gun to aid training.
After completing your Module 1 training you will be fully prepared for your test and your instructor will accompany you to the local MPTC (DVSA Test Centre) to take the Module 1 practical test.

This test consists of a 40 minutes road ride. At the start of the test the examiner will brief you. You will have an eye-sight test and be asked a number of safety questions before being given a final briefing. The rest of the test will be conducted on the road.

Module 2 training will totally prepare you for all aspects of the test and will be conducted on the road. The training will culminate in your instructor taking you to the local MPTC (DVSA Test Centre) to take the Module 2 practical test.
Within the 40 minutes road ride test, there will an independent riding section of the test, which will last approximately 10 minutes.
Independent riding section of the module 2 test
Your practical module 2 motorcycle test will include approximately 10 minutes of independent riding.
How the test works
During your test you’ll have to ride independently by either following:
• traffic signs
• a series of directions
• a combination of both
To help you understand where you are going when following verbal directions, the examiner will show you a diagram.
If you forget the directions
It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember every direction, or if you go the wrong way. Independent riding is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills. Riding independently means making your own decisions – this includes deciding when it’s safe and appropriate to ask for confirmation about where you’re going.
You can’t use sat nav. If you ask for a reminder of the directions, the examiner will confirm them to you. Our service fees for Module 1 & Module 2 training are £225 per day for 2-to-1 tuition or £400 for 1-to-1 tuition, which includes training, motorcycle, equipment and insurance, fuel with no hidden extras.
Once you have passed Module 1 and Module 2 on a 600cc+ motorcycle you have gained your full unrestricted motorcycle licence and you can ride any bike, at any size and at any power. It is possible to take this course at 21, if you have passed the A2 test and at least two years have elapsed.
