A smooth, controlled U-turn doesn`t happen by accident — it`s the result of understanding the technique and putting in the practice. 🏍️ Our students work on bringing it all together: observations, slow-speed balance, clutch and throttle control, rear brake, and always looking where the bike needs to go. Awkward at first, second nature with time.

🏍️ Every rider starts somewhere — and we`ve got the right starting point for YOU. Whether you`re brand new to bikes and want a relaxed intro session (ITM), or you`re ready to hit the road as a learner with your CBT, Universal Motorcycle Training® has you covered. Not sure which to choose? Drop us a message and we`ll help you figure it out. Your journey starts here. 🙌
Never ridden a motorcycle or scooter before? You have a few options, and you don’t have to jump straight into a full CBT day. If you’re a complete beginner, we recommend starting with our Introduction to Motorcycling (ITM), also known as our Beginner’s Course.
The ITM gives you a relaxed introduction to the basics before attempting CBT. You can work on: ✔️ Getting familiar with the motorcycle and its controls ✔️ Balance and moving the bike safely ✔️ Starting and stopping ✔️ Slow-speed control ✔️ Basic turning and manoeuvring ✔️ Clutch control and gears on a manual bike ✔️ Observations and shoulder checks ✔️ Building confidence before your CBT
Want even more individual attention? We also offer private one-to-one motorcycle lessons, where the training can be focused entirely on you, your experience and the areas you need to develop.
Once you’ve built those foundations, you can move on to your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) with a much better idea of what to expect.
And if you prefer individual attention throughout your CBT itself, we also offer our CBT Executive 1-to-1, with one instructor dedicated to one trainee.
There’s no need to rush the learning process. The aim is to build your skills properly and get you riding safely and confidently.

The London commuting cost index, with the arithmetic shown.
A Monday to Sunday Tube cap is £44.70 in Zones 1 and 2, rising to £81.60 in Zones 1 to 6. On our stated assumption of 46 commuting weeks a year, that equals £2,056.20 to £3,753.60 annually.
Petrol at 161.63p a litre works out at £7.35 a gallon. Vehicle tax on a motorcycle is £27 to £125 a year, against £200 for a standard car registered on or after 1 April 2017.
We are not promising you a saving. We are showing you the sums so you can run your own.

Every milestone — CBT, A1, A2, DAS, full Category A — is proof of real dedication and hours of hard-earned practice. 🏍️ Watching our trainees grow into safer, more confident riders is exactly why our instructors love what they do. Well done to all our recent graduates — enjoy the road ahead and ride safe! 📍 Universal Motorcycle Training® 🌐 www.universalmct.co.uk
How much does a full motorbike licence really cost?
£1,113 for an A1 or A2 Bronze route if you already hold a valid CBT and do not need a first provisional licence.
For a complete beginner, the six-day CBT and A1 Complete Beginner package is £1,545. Add the separately booked £23 theory test and the total is £1,568.
The relevant DVSA Module 1 and Module 2 practical test fees are already included in the package price, so they are not added again.
Bronze courses are four booked training days and Silver courses are five. A2 Gold and Category A Gold are six days. The combined CBT and A1 Complete Beginner route is six days.
No training school can promise a pass or a fixed finish date. Theory test availability, DVSA test slots, how the training days are spread and any retest all affect the elapsed time.
🏍️ Milestones being made! Huge congratulations to our latest trainees who`ve completed their motorcycle training with Universal Motorcycle Training® — from CBT to full licence tests, every step forward counts. More confidence, more experience, more road ahead. Well done to everyone pictured — ride safe and enjoy the journey! 🙌

Good riders don’t just use the brakes to stop - they use them to control speed.
Reduce your speed before bends, roundabouts and junctions. Brake smoothly while the motorcycle is upright, release the brakes progressively and then accelerate gently as you exit the hazard. Planning ahead makes every ride safer, smoother and more controlled, reflecting the riding principles taught in DVSA guidance and advanced riding.

The front brake provides most of your stopping power, while the rear brake helps keep the motorcycle balanced and stable. Learning to apply both smoothly and progressively gives you shorter stopping distances and greater control in all road conditions.
Practise good braking habits before you need them in an emergency.

The learner end of the market is where the growth is. UK motorcycle registrations rose 17.5% in July, and the 51-125cc learner band grew even faster, up 21% (Source: MCIA). The month`s two best sellers? Both 125s.

Leather remains one of the best materials for abrasion resistance, but it isn’t the only safe option.
Modern textile motorcycle clothing with CE-approved armour offers excellent protection, is waterproof, lighter to wear and often more practical for everyday commuting.
Whatever you wear, make sure it’s designed specifically for motorcycling and includes impact protection in key areas such as the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Good protective equipment is an investment in your safety.

Not all helmets offer the same level of protection.
Before buying, check that your helmet carries recognised safety approval markings, such as UNECE Regulation 22.06, which is accepted for road use in the UK. Avoid novelty helmets that don’t meet recognised safety standards.
A certified helmet could make all the difference when it matters most.

A full-face helmet offers the highest level of protection by covering your entire head, including your chin and jaw - areas commonly injured in motorcycle crashes.
Choose a helmet that fits snugly without causing discomfort and always look for recognised safety approvals. Comfort is important, but protection comes first.

Flip-up (modular) helmets combine the protection of a full-face helmet with the convenience of an open-face design. They’re a favourite with commuters, touring riders and instructors because they make it easier to communicate when stationary.
Remember, always ride with the chin bar fully closed and locked. An open chin bar is not designed to protect you while riding.

Do motorbikes pay London`s Congestion Charge? No. But that is not the whole story.
- Motorcycles and mopeds are exempt from the £18 daily charge - ULEZ is separate: the bike needs to meet Euro 3 for NOx, or it is £12.50 a day - The Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels charge does apply to bikes
