If you are aged 24 or over or held an A2 licence for two years you can get an unrestricted motorcycle licence by taking a Direct Access (DAS) course and test. A full bike licence entitling you to ride any size of machine is gained through this course. After completing your CBT your training continues and once you are proficient enough, you progress onto a 650 cc motorcycle (Suzuki Gladius 650 cc) which you will take your tests on.
You will need to have a valid theory test certificate and if you don’t already hold a valid CBT certificate you will need to complete a CBT first. The theory can be arranged by calling the DVSA on 0300 200 1122 or by visiting this link. Your upgrade to a 600cc motorcycle will depend on your experience.
If you are aged 19 or over you can get a restricted full motorcycle licence by taking an A1 Licence course and test. A restricted full bike licence entitling you to ride a motorcycle or a scooter up to 125cc (up to 11 BHP) is gained through this course/test. After completing your CBT, your training continues and once you are proficient enough, you progress onto a 125cc motorcycle or a scooter, whichever you prefer, which you will take your tests on.
You will need to have a valid theory test certificate and if you don’t already hold a valid CBT certificate you will need to complete a CBT first. The theory can be arranged by calling the DVSA on 0300 200 1122 or by visiting this link. Your upgrade to a 125cc motorcycle will depend on your experience.
If you are aged 19 or over you can get a restricted full motorcycle licence by taking an A2 Licence course and test. A restricted full bike licence entitling you to ride a motorcycle or a scooter up to 500cc (or a bike restricted to 46 BHP or less) is gained through this course/test. After completing your CBT, your training continues and once you are proficient enough, you progress onto a 500cc motorcycle or a scooter, whichever you prefer, which you will take your tests on.
You will need to have a valid motorcycle theory test certificate and if you don’t already hold a valid CBT certificate you will need to complete a CBT first. The theory can be arranged by calling the DVSA on 0300 200 1122 or by visiting this link. Your upgrade to a 500cc motorcycle will depend on your experience.
The DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) checks your motorcycle riding skills and provides training to help you improve. There is no test. Once you’ve successfully completed the scheme you will get a “DVSA Certificate of Competence” and you can use it to get discounts on motorcycle insurance.
You can take the enhanced rider scheme, if you’re a fully licensed motorcyclist and have passed your test.
