Did you know that the full motorcycle licence practical test is split into two separate parts?
🔹 Module 1 – an off-road test carried out at a DVSA test centre, focusing on bike control, slow manoeuvres, hazard avoidance and emergency braking. 🔹 Module 2 – the on-road test, where the examiner assesses your real-world riding, road awareness, observations and decision-making in traffic.

If you want to ride a motorcycle or scooter on UK roads, a CBT is where it all starts.
CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training – a legally required training course that most new riders must complete before riding on public roads with a provisional motorcycle licence.
It’s training, not a test. The focus is on safety, confidence and learning the correct skills from day one.
What does a CBT include?

In real-world riding, things can go wrong fast. A car pulls out, a pedestrian steps into the road, traffic stops suddenly. Your ability to stop the bike quickly and safely can make the difference.

CBT is training, not a test. By law, you only progress through each element when the instructor is confident you can ride safely and under control. Everyone learns at a different pace, and that’s completely normal.
Some riders complete CBT in one day because they:
Pick up bike control quickly Stay calm and focused Have good coordination and road awareness
Others need more time – especially first-time riders – and that’s not a failure. It’s responsible training.
