What CBT costs and what is included
CBT Standard and CBT Renewal cost £205 each. Your booking includes the motorcycle for the day. We can normally provide a helmet, jacket and gloves for CBT Standard, subject to availability and standard sizing. Your DL196 certificate is issued when you complete all five elements to the required standard.
Executive one-to-one CBT costs £550, with one instructor teaching one rider. This is an option for those who prefer individual tuition rather than learning in a group. There is no weekend supplement: weekday and weekend CBT courses cost the same.
How to book your CBT in London
Book online by choosing your preferred centre and an available date. You can also call 020 3691 8807 or message us on WhatsApp for help with your booking. Tell us whether this is your first CBT or a renewal, and ask about anything you are unsure of before booking.
Bring your original, valid UK driving licence with provisional motorcycle entitlement, plus glasses or contact lenses if you need them for riding. Wear suitable clothing: a protective jacket, motorcycle trousers or sturdy jeans without rips, and sturdy over-the-ankle boots. Shorts, tracksuit bottoms and trainers are not suitable for our training.
Read your joining instructions before travelling. Check the centre address and start time, plan your journey and allow time to find the training area. Contact us before booking if you have particular equipment or support needs.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need CBT to ride a 125 in London?
Usually, yes. Unless exempt, learners aged 17 or over need provisional motorcycle entitlement and a valid CBT certificate to ride a motorcycle up to 125cc and 11 kW with L plates. A car licence alone does not exempt you. You do not need CBT if you already hold a full motorcycle licence covering the bike you intend to ride.
How long does CBT take?
Set aside a full day. CBT includes at least two hours of on-road riding, and the overall duration depends on your progress through the training. Some riders need more than one day to reach the required standard, so completion in a single session is not guaranteed.
Is CBT a test?
No. CBT is training, not a pass or fail test. Your instructor checks your understanding and riding skills as you progress. You receive your DL196 certificate only after completing all five elements to the required standard, not simply for attending.
Which London CBT centre is nearest to me?
Your nearest centre depends on your postcode and travel route. Compare Alperton, Croydon, Dagenham, Edgware, Eltham and Wimbledon in London, or Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire, using the centre links above. Check journey times as well as distance, or contact us with your postcode for help choosing a centre.
Can I do CBT on a weekend?
Yes. All seven centres run CBT courses seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. Standard CBT and CBT Renewal both cost £205, with no weekend supplement. Check available weekend dates online or contact us for help booking.
What happens if I do not complete CBT in one day?
You can book extra training to continue working towards completion. Your instructor will explain which areas need more practice and discuss your next steps. A CBT return visit costs £190. This provides further training time, but does not guarantee completion on that visit.
